Tetraethylene glycol was modified by two different approaches to synthesize the scaffold of dendrimer. Poly(amido amine) (PAMAM) dendrimers (G = 1-3) having tetraethylene glycol spacer were prepared and attached to chitosan by reductive N-alkylation. On chitosan molecules, the degree of substitution of dendrimers was 0.03-0.18. Sialic acid residue bound PAMAM dendrimers of each generation were successfully attached to chitosan.
