Oxidation and addition of Dihalocarbenes to β-himachalene

Reaction of beta-himachalene with one equivalent of dihalocarbene, KMnO4 or m-CPBA gives regio- and stereospecifically one product resulting from the attack of the C6-C7 double bond.
