A method of preparing O-18-labelled nicotinamide, involving cyanopyridine, H-2 O-18, and 1,1'3,3'-tetramethylguanidine as a catalyst is described. The desired product is produced in 91% chemical yield and 97.5% isotopic incorporation. Copyright (C) 2002 John Wiley Sons, Ltd.
