Long-axis function. (systolic shortening and diastolic lengthening) is impaired in patients with symptoms of heart failure and preserved global left ventricular systolic function. As the data on longitudinal ventricular dysfunction accumulate, the use of tissue Doppler imaging may become an important additional investigation in these patients.
