The phase diagram of the quasi-ternary Cu,Se-ZnSe-GeSe2 system was studied using differential-thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction and metallography. The projection of the liquidus surface and isothermal section at 670 K were constructed. Seven ternary invariants were found in the system: two ternary eutectics and five transitory peritectic points. Only the quaternary Cu2ZnGeSe4 compound has an incongruent melting point at 1163 K and undergoes a polymorphous transformation at 1071 K. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
