Structure and strength of hydrogen bonds in inorganic solids are discussed with respect to the various X-(HYn)-Y-... motifs possible, the inherent hydrogen bond donor strength of the acid hydrogen-atom and acceptor capability of the respective acceptor groups, collective phenomena, as cooperative, competitive, and synergetic effects, and structural features, as the number of acceptors, e.g. two-center, three-center (bifurcated), etc. hydrogen bonds, and the hydrogen bond angles X-(HY)-Y-... (linear or bent) and (HY)-Y-...-Z. Experimental (X-ray, neutron, IR, Raman, NMR, NQR, etc.) and theoretical results on X-H(D)(...)bond lengths and angles, XH(D) stretching and bending modes (frequencies, intensities, and, half widths), H-1 MAS NMR chemical shifts, and D-2 NQR coupling constants are reviewed.
