Effect of mass transfer on the transient free convection flow of a dissipative fluid along a semi-infinite vertical plate in presence of constant heat flux, is studied by solving coupled non-linear system of partial differential equations, using Crank-Nicolson technique which is stable and convergent. Transient temperature, concentration and velocity profiles, local and average skin-friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are shown graphically for air. The effects of epsilon, viscous dissipative parameter, Schmidt number, buoyancy ratio parameter on the transient state are discussed. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
