A supramolecular system composed of a cyclophane bearing adamantyl moieties with cyclodextrins was developed. The binding affinities of cyclophane toward fluorescent guests such as TNS were effectively retained even when the host was assembled with (x-cyclodextrin in neutral aqueous media. Its binding site was significantly apolar and well shielded from the bulk aqueous phase. The marked motional repression was also observed for the entrapped guest molecules.
