Characteristics of ultrasonic degradation behavior of polyacrylamide (PAa) solutions were studied under various conditions of irradiation time, reaction temperature and reaction concentration, by Ubblehode viscometry. It was found that the ultrasonic degradation of polyacrylamide solution increased with increasing irradiation time and reaction temperature but with decreasing solution concentration. The effect of temperature on the degradation of polyacrylamide solution followed an Arrhenius law. The activation energy of ultrasonic degradation of polyacrylamide solution was 43.9 kJ/mol by using Ovenall's relation. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
