A phenylene-based butadiynylene polymer, two fluorene-based butadiynylene polymers and two thienylene-based butadiynylene polymers were synthesized by Hay method to evaluate their use as the emitting materials of polymeric light emitting diodes. The phenylene-based polymer, fluorene-based polymers and thienylene-based polymers exhibited green, blue and orange-red photoluminescence (PL), respectively. The PL quantum yields of the phenylene-based polymer and fluorene-based polymers in CHCl3 solution were high (over 0.9). Polymeric light emitting diodes were fabricated by using these polymers as the emitting layers. Blue, green and red luminescences were achieved, and the EL luminance values of these polymers were 3-62 cd/m(2).
