This study reports the electrochemical characterization of non-stoichiometric LiMn2O4 spinels (commercial and home-made via the so]gel route) covered by poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (pEDOT) chemically grown on the oxide particle surface and of spinels without polymer covering for use in lithium-ion batteries. The results demonstrate that the pEDOT covered spinels can be suitable electrode materials without addition of conducting carbon, and that they display a slightly higher stability upon cycling than the corresponding spinels without pEDOT covering, indicating a moderate barrier effect of pEDOT which protects the inorganic particles from degradation.
