Assisted reproduction has caused a significant rise in pregnancies with two or more fetuses. These gestations create substantial risks for pregnant women and the children who are born. The question of bow to reduce the incidence of multifetal pregnancies is both an ethical issue and a challenge for the field of assisted reproduction to regulate itself, a task it has been unable to accomplish so far.
