Manganese dioxide thin films were deposited on a glass substrate using chemical spray pyrolysis technique. The structural, morphological, optical and electrical properties were studied for as-deposited and annealed beta-MnO2 thin film. Moreover, the acetaldehyde vapour sensing characteristics of the annealed beta-MnO2 film was studied by chemiresistor method at ambient temperature (similar to 30 degrees C). The sensing results revealed that beta-MnO2 thin film have good sensing response (S - 89%) and fast response-recovery time (60 s and 11 s) towards 10 ppm of acetaldehyde vapour. The vapour sensing properties of the beta-MnO2 thin film in mixed environment were studied and reported. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
