An Fe2Al3 alloy was deformed in compression at high temperatures. Below 500 degreesC, it is brittle but, above 600 degreesC, it shows plasticity. The thermodynamic parameters for plastic deformation have been determined. The dislocation structure was observed by transmission electron microscopy and the Burgers vectors determined. It is concluded that plastic deformation of this alloy at high temperature is controlled by a Peierls mechanism. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
