This paper presents results on the magnetic Barkhausen noise of 1000 commercial steel using elementary signals parameters. The applied stress and grain sizes were correlated with the RMS voltage of the Magnetic Barkhausen Noise. As alternative, a new method was developed to correlate elementary signal shapes with the grain size and tensile stress, giving a physical explanation in both cases. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
