Assembly of dicobalt(III) complexes incorporating di-μ-thiophenolate moieties

The dinuclear [(CoCoIII)-Co-III] complexes [Co-2(L-1)(mu-OAc)(OAc)-(NH3)](PF6)(2) and [(CO2(L-2)(2)(mu-OAc)](PF6), incorporating the rare Co(mu-SR)(2)Co moiety associated with Schiff-base co-ligands, are protected by bridging mu-OAc- units situated within a domed cavity formed by the complexes; increasing the steric bulk of the ligand, as in [L-3](2-), affords the mononuclear species [Co(L-3)(OAc)].
