Online analytical techniques were used to monitor fast and strong exothermic nitrations in microreactors. Mechanistic studies were conducted by using online FTIR microscopy to identify key intermediates in microchannels. IR spectroscopy, thermography and HPLC were used to investigate the influence of changing process conditions, to control the completeness of conversion and to monitor the stability of the entire microreaction process.
