The sensitivity of a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method for detection of Cyclospora cayetanensis in raspberries, basil, and mesclun lettuce was evaluated. The assay could detect 40 or fewer oocysts per 100 g of raspberries or basil, but had a detection limit of around 1000 per 100 g in mesclun lettuce. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science B.V.
