This article reviews and evaluates the pertinent literature and uses this analysis to provide the basis for a rational diagnostic approach to infantile hypertension. Numerous etiologies of hypertension are discussed and normative blood pressure data for neonates and infants are provided. Techniques for accurate blood pressure measurement in the intensive care setting and for routine outpatient settings are discussed.
