A sulfur electrode is cycled in mixtures of 3-methoxysulfolane and sulfolane with linear ethers (glyme, diglyme, tetraglyme) and lithium trifluoromethane sulfonate (lithium triphlate) as the supporting electrolyte. The decrease in the electrode capacity, observed with an increase in the number ethylene oxide links in glyme molecules and in the number of donor centers in sulfone molecules, is attributed to changes in the form taken by lithium polysulfides in solutions and the increase in the electrolyte viscosity.
