The electrical conductivity and the yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) reactivity of Y1-xSrxMnO3 (0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.2) have been investigated. The electrical conductivities of Y1-xSrxMnO3 were between 0.003 and 12.5 S cm(-1). It has been proposed that the conductivities were affected by both Sr doping and oxygen interstitial. For the YSZ reactivity, mixtures of Y1-xSrxMnO3 and YSZ (with 8 mol.% yttria) have been annealed at 1200degreesC for 5 h in air. The formation of SrZrO3 and Zr3Y4O12 has been determined in the Y1-xSrxMnO3(x > 0)/YSZ systems. However, no reaction product was observed in the YMnO3/YSZ system. Different reaction mechanisms were thus derived for the Y1-xSrxMnO3(x > 0)/YSZ and the YMnO3/YSZ systems, respectively. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
