Hydration of manganese sulfate at a low reaction temperature (150 degreesC) induces high heterogeneous catalytic activity and stability in the oxidation of methanethiol. The temperature of the reaction controls the reversible change of structure, i.e., hydration/dehydration processes as well as the associated changes of activity and selectivity.
