TiO2 nanoparticles were prepared in nanoreactor formed by the adsorption layer on silica surface. Solvent replacement experiment provided direct evidence that there was a water-rich adsorption layer and the reaction took place in the layer. TEM, XRD and XPS indicated a uniform TiO2 particles laid over surface of SiO2. The effects of reaction temperature and reactant concentration were investigated and the potential mechanism was discussed. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
