Fungi isolated from soil were screened for exogenous lipolytic activity. The highest lipase activity was found in a new soil isolate of Aspergillus sp. Some optimal cultural parameters influencing the growth and production of extracellular lipase from this Aspergillus sp. were investigated. The lipase yield was maximum on day 4 of incubation of the culture at pH 5.5 and 30 degreesC. When the medium was prepared using olive oil as carbon source and peptone as a nitrogen source, better lipase yields were obtained. Aeration enhanced growth and lipase production.
