A version of the Dregia-Hirth rebound mechanism for misfit dislocation creation is observed in atomistic models of Cu-Ni nanolayered structures. Glide dislocations in Cu layers undergo a reaction at the Cu-Ni interface under applied compression to produce another glide dislocation and a misfit dislocation. (C) 2003 Acta Materialia Inc.
