The microstructure and high temperature mechanical properties of polycrystalline Cu-Nb nanolayered composites prepared by magnetron sputtering were evaluated. Peak tensile strength decreased from similar to450 MPa at 500 degreesC to similar to150 MPa at 700 degreesC for 75 nm Cu-75 nm Nb multilayer. Evidences of interlayer sliding upon tensile deformation were detected, but nanolayered structures were stable. (C) 2003 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
