A convenient one-pot synthesis of 1,7-dicarbonyl compounds has been accomplished by a three-component Michael addition reaction of nitromethane with two unsymmetric alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds in the presence of a base. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
