A new process for the synthesis of poly(arylene disulfide)/graphite nanocomposites was developed via in situ polymerization of aromatic dithiols in the presence of exfoliated graphite oxide. The nanoscale dispersion of carbon layer within the matrix was confirmed by X-ray diffraction patterns and TEM examination. The conductivity of the poly(arylene disulfide)/graphite nanocomposite was determined to be increased by about seven orders of magnitude compared with GO. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
