Branching ratios for C-C bond scission during the dissociative recombination of hydrocarbon ions C3Hn+ have been measured using the storage ring technique. It is found that the channel leading to the scission of one of the carbon-carbon bonds is always possible but is particularly important for n = 1 and n = 6-8. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V.
