Young's moduli of zirconia top-coat and thermally growth oxide (TGO) formed underneath the top-coat after high temperature exposure to an oxidizing atmosphere have been measured, using an ultra-microindentation technique. The measured Young's moduli of the top-coat and the TGO increased with exposure time at high temperature. An anisotropy in Young's modulus was observed for the top-coat. (C) 2004 Acta Materialia Inc.
