Pt/LaCOO3 has been evaluated for synthesis gas production via the combined dry reforming-partial oxidation of CH4 at 800 degreesC. Significant support restructuring was observed during pretreatment and reaction. The addition of oxygen resulted in partial stabilization of the perovskite, but deactivation was still observed. The deactivation of Pt/LaCoO3 is due to structural changes and carbon deposition. Changes in the support structure result in an inability of the support to aid in carbon removal from the metal. The activity can be regained with exposure to CO2, but the support structure is not regenerated and subsequent reaction results in carbon deposition. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
