Photocatalytic efficiency of TiO2/SnO2 (TiO2 overcoated with SnO2) heterojunction system was investigated. TiO2/SnO2 stacks were deposited on sodalime glass by reactive DC magnetron sputtering using Ti and Sn metal targets. Photocatalytic efficiencies of TiO2/SnO2 stacks were evaluated by gas-phase isopropanol photodegradation with UV light irradiation. Photocatalytic efficiencies of TiO2/SnO2 stacks were thought to be influenced by behavior of carriers photogenerated in TiO2, Surface wettabilities of TiO2/SnO2 stacks were dramatically improved; superhydrophilic surface was maintained for at least 2 weeks. Relation between photocatalytic efficiency and surface wettability was discussed. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
