This paper presents the results of a quantitatively substantiated expert judgement concerning the potential for further reduction of the exhaust emissions of passenger cars with conventional otto and diesel engine technologies. Also a qualitative evaluation is given of the expected emissions of advanced engine technologies and hybrid propulsion.
