Using an intense source of far infrared radiation, the absorption spectrum of liquid water is measured at a temperature ranging from 269 to 323 K. In the infrared spectrum we observe modes that are related to the local structure of liquid water. Here we present a FIR measured spectrum that is sensitive to the low frequency (<100 cm(-1)) microscopic details that exist in liquid water. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
