This paper provides an overview of the advantages and problems of superconducting RF guns. The results of the Rossendorf experiments are presented here. These results are integrated in the design of a new 3.4 cell superconducting RF gun. The beam parameters of this gun correspond to the demands for the new generation of high current, high brightness injectors. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
