A joined research project between the Technical University of Braunschweig and the Technical University of Munchen investigates the possibilities for the production of stable product suspensions in a particle size range smaller than 100 nm. In this paper results for comminution of fused corundum showing the influence of the electrostatic stabilization at different pH-values on the grinding progress and the grinding media wear are presented. Furthermore, by means of experimental results the influence of the grinding media diameter and the stirrer tip speed is discussed. (C) 2004 Kluwer Academic Publishers.
