This paper presents the results of combined experimental studies and computational analysis of deformation in a lattice block structure with a pyramidal core Structure and triangulated planar truss faces. Following a brief characterization of the chemical composition and microstructure of individual struts, the deformation behavior of the individual struts is elucidated Under tensile and compressive loading. The statistical distributions that characterize the variabilities in strut strength are also identified by the analyses of data from multiple tension tests. The compressive deformation behavior of the pyramidal lattice block structures is then studied via in situ observation with a digital camera. The observed deformation behavior and the measured stress-strain behavior in the lattice block structure are shown to be consistent with predictions from a finite element model.
