Two thin-film B-10 samples on tantalum backings were made for measurement of cross sections of the B-10(n, alpha)Li-7 reaction in the MeV neutron energy region. The number of B-10 atoms in the samples was determined using the relative comparison method by detecting alpha and triton particles from thermal neutron induced nuclear reactions of B-10(n(th), alpha)Li-7 and Li-6(n(th), t)He-4 with a (LiF)-Li-6 sample as the reference. A twin gridded ionization chamber was used as the detector of charged particles. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
