Montmorillonite particles suspended in aqueous electrolyte solutions give rise to adhesion events that can be detected by chronoamperometry using a static mercury drop electrode. The potential dependence of the adhesion signals allows determining the surface charge density of the adhering particle surfaces. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
