This paper discusses questions of the practical use of In2O3(Sn)-based conductive coatings transparent in the visible region, obtained by electron-beam evaporation in vacuum. The optimum coating thicknesses arc determined that satisfy the requirement that the total transmittance and Surface resistance of the coating must be sufficient for them to be used as transparent heater elements. An example is given of a specific application. (C) 2004 Optical Society of America.
