Lymphangiomas probably represent benign proliferative developmental abnormalities involving the lymphatic system.(1,2) The lymphatic system arises from 5 primitive sacs budding from the maturing peripheral venous system.(3,4) Portions of these primitive sacs may sequestrate and form separated remnants which have growth potential. When the resulting proliferations fail to achieve anastomosis with the larger lymphatic or venous channels, a lymphangioma develops(5,6).
