In this paper, a contribution to the search of new electrode materials for lithium batteries is reported. The polycrystalline LiNbO3 is proposed as a new anode active material for the Li ion battery. This oxide may be used as anode material due to the voltage is very low (average voltage <0.5V). For the first discharge, a capacity of 420 mAh/g was obtained at a current density of 150 mA/g, whereas a capacity of 620 mAh/g was obtained at a current density of 150 mA/g by 3 wt% nano sized coating of Ag. And irreversible capacity is decrease at the coated sample. The result illustrated that low electronic conductivity is one of the origin of irreversible capacity loss at this material.
