New compounds, namely a homolog of nonactic acid (trihomonactic acid), its lactone and dilactones were isolated from a strain of Streptomyces globisporus. Their structures, including the absolute configurations of the hydroxy and methyl groups, were determined by spectroscopic techniques such as UV, IR, MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy. All compounds were highly active against Gram-positive bacteria and brine shrimp. (C) Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH Co.
