An iron glycinate of the composition [(FeFe2F8)-Fe-III-F-II(CO2CH2NH3)2](-) (H3O)(+) containing Fe in both + 2 and + 3 oxidation states has been obtained hydrothermally. The compound has a perfect kagome structure, with a typical hexagonal tungsten bronze-type sheet. The compound shows divergence between the zero-field-cooled and the field-cooled samples in the magnetization data and exhibits ferromagnetism at low temperatures. These magnetic properties are entirely different from those-of ordinary Fe(III) kagome structures. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
