New finite-differences, called isotropic finite-differences, where the lowest order error terms are without any directional bias, are proposed. An accurate simulation of 6-fold symmetric dendritic solidification is presented using a numerical scheme based on these finite-differences. (C) 2004 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
