An extremely practical method for synthesis of sugar orthoesters has been developed without using any organic amines or heavy metals as additives. Various sugar orthoesters were prepared in good yields by the reaction of an acylated glycosyl bromide and an alcohol in the presence of potassium fluoride. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd.
