A new composition for Li+ conducting glass with an ionic conductivity >10(-6)S/cm was suggested in LiO2-B2O3-V2O5 system. The maximum conductivity was found along the composition lines yLi(2)O-(95-y)B2O3-5V(2)O(5) (45 less than or equal to y less than or equal to 47) and zLi(2)O-50B(2)O(3)-(50-z)V2O5 (45 less than or equal to z less than or equal to 48). The conductivity of the binary Li2O-B2O3 glasses with an identical Li2O content is significantly smaller than that of the ternary Li2O-B2O3-V2O5 glasses, which indicated a mixed former effect between 13,0 and V2O5. The improvement in ionic conduction was 3 discussed in relation to the change in the glass structure. (C) 2004 Published by Elsevier B.V.
