This article reports the recent research of electrodeposited Cu2O thin film as the new anode materials for thin film lithium ion battery. The cuprous oxide with pure cubic phase was successfully deposited by electrochemical deposition. The results of the assembled electrochemical cell tests indicated that electrodeposited cuprous oxide film permitted high electrochemical capacities and excellent cycle retention. After 50 cycles, the capacities still sustained at about 220 mAh/g, and the decay was not significant except the first cycle. It is believed that the electrodeposition process is a convenient and inexpensive method compatible with the IC fabrication for preparing a novel anode material for thin film lithium ion battery, which will find possible application for miniaturized power source.
