Macroporous TiO2 (anatase) electrodes for lithium-ion batteries were synthesized by using colloidal crystals as templates, and the lithium insertion/extraction was investigated at high current densities. Polarization of lithium insertion/extraction decreased with decreasing pore size, and an electrode with 0.1-mum pore showed high capacity of 0.5 Li/TiO2 at 1.4 C and 0.13 Li/TiO2 at 28 C. The polarization of the lithium insertion/extraction was also discussed in view of electric resistance and electrolyte resistance. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
