Leucocyte lysates from rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss showed an iron-binding activity that was retained even if the samples were exposed to an acid pH (4(.)5). Iron-binding activity of leucocyte supernatants was enhanced by the presence of 1 mug ml(-1) phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate in the cell medium. (C) 2004 The Fisheries Society of the British Isles.
